After an arrest for CDV in Columbia SC or in Richland County the defendant will be transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, 201 John Mark Dial Drive, Columbia, South Carolina 29209. Bond Court is held several times inside the jail. Defendants have a right to be represented by an attorney at their bond proceeding.

During the Bond Court the defendant will be advised of their next court date as well as of the details of any "no contact" bond restrictions. The case will then be forwarded to the appropriate Court for trial. It is important for a defendant to consult with an attorney prior to their first Court appearance. Otherwise they may lose or not take advantage of important rights.

CDV 2^nd or 3^rd or DVHAN charges will be referred to the 5^th Circuit Solicitor's Office. Defendants will be given an appearance date for General Sessions at the Richland County Courthouse, 1701 Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29202.

Richland County also operates a Transfer Court which is a special term of General Sessions presided over by a Magistrate Judge. Transfer Court has jurisdiction to try or sentence either first or second offense CDV cases. The Court can only impose a fine or jail sentence. CDHVAN or CDV 3^rd must be prosecuted in regular General Sessions court.
