It seems like everyone has a Facebook account nowadays. Even CDV defendants. Police and CDV prosecutors know this and are now routinely checking up on defendants using Facebook or other social media sites.
Material that may be viewed upon negatively by the CDV prosecutor or the Court includes:
Complaints about the police
Alcohol or drug use references
Expressions of frustration with your case or the Court
No contact bond order violations
Controversial political or personal opinions
Sexual situations and themes
At a minimum your Facebook account should be set to private and edited free of all potentially problematic content. Ideally your account should be closed or suspended until the conclusion of your case. This advice applies not only for domestic violence but other South Carolina criminal charges as well.
At the Law Office of James R. Snell, Jr., LLC, we help those arrested for CDV maintain their freedom and fight unfair, false and misleading allegations. Call (803) 359-3301 to schedule your free consultation in our Lexington SC office.
